Go Vintage With a No Frosting Wedding Cake

Not a frosting or fondant fan? Then go vintage and nix it all together like Hilary Duff did recently at her laid back, 1920s inspired wedding with now hubby – and current pro hockey player – Mike Comrie.

The beautiful three-tiered cake garnished with an abundance of fresh, white roses was made by Fantasy Frostings in South Pasadena, CA, and it certainly made a statement. Local wedding planner, Therese Dozier of My Sorted Affair (www.MySortedAffair.com) says of Duff’s daring cake choice: “I think it’s unique. I love it, I love the idea of doing something different. I see a lot of weddings where people have their aunts make homemade pies, or have a cookie buffet, and I love that. And I just love when people are strong enough to just do what they want to do. It’s a gorgeous cake.”

In an interview with OK! Magazine, Duff explained that she opted for  no frosting so that the cake could give off a “vintage, home-made” feel, a perfect choice for her “warm and fuzzy” wedding.

“I’m a little picky when things get too sweet, ” Duff told OK! “The cake is more buttery and the [frosted layers] a little sweeter.”

A cake that looks fabulous and tastes great too? Yes please!
